Treatment Groups
WRA is committed to excellence in all aspects of service delivery. The staff at WRA places a strong emphasis on safety, tolerance and community in order to create a healing environment. Major research has confirmed that women are more likely to successfully complete treatment if they participate in gender-specific programming which addresses their particular needs.Our treatment groups cover a wide range of topics and therapies:
I. CORE TREATMENT GROUPS
- Relaxation & /or Acupuncture: A professional Acupuncturist facilitates this group.
- AOD Process Group:
Alcohol and Other Drug (AOD) recovery process group. Held twice a week for clients to discuss current issues related to recovery.
- Recovery Education Part I:
Twelve week series of topics related to recovery education. Sets the recovery-learning theme for the week. Homework is reviewed.
- Honesty, Openness and Willingness:
Education on integrating the Steps into daily living as an aid to address any problem or issue.
- Expressing Recovery:
Takes the recovery-learning theme of each week and puts skills into practice utilizing expressive arts and interactive learning.
- Healthy Mind/ Healthy Body:
Health education and physical exercise through a variety of alternative movement classes: Tai Chi, Yoga, and Belly Dance. Also provides one group led by New Directions case management counselor, and one group led by HIV/AIDS educator.
- Recovering Womanhood:
Drama therapy group designed to help women find community and reinforce the strengths of being women.
- MAPS (mindful awareness & practice serenity):
Mindfulness practice, relaxation skills, and grounding exercises.
- Relapse Prevention:
Education about the relapse process.
- Yoga:
Relaxation and mindfulness
- WISE:
Group designed to help women explore self-esteem and co-dependency issues utilizing both discussion and expressive arts format.
II. SPECIALIZED TREATMENT GROUPS
- Food & Feelings:
Group for women issues related to over-eating, under-eating, compulsive exercise and/or severely distorted or negative body image.
- Creating Safety:
Group for women who have experienced trauma based on the work of Dr. Lisa Najavits in “Seeking Safety”.
- Mommy & Me:
Mothers and their children in the perinatal program are encouraged to interact and explore their relationship by providing a variety of stimulating environments.
- Parenting:
Teaches parenting skills.
III. AFTERCARE AND CONTINUING CARE GROUPS
- Aftercare Process Group:
Continued support for women who have completed a treatment program.
- Relapse Prevention II:
Advanced learning and skill development in relapse prevention.
- Specialized Treatment:
Available to clients
