Our volunteers agree! We could not operate so successfully without the support of our many generous volunteers who share their time and talents. Let us know if you would like more information about the many volunteer jobs available. Opportunities are available for individuals or groups.

Just Right for You...

  • WRA Celebrates Committee/Volunteers
    Help coordinate WRA’s annual special event. The committee has responsibilities for the following areas: organization, sponsorship, and auction/raffle. Individuals interested in participating in the committee sign up for a specific area. The event has been held for the past 15 years. Committees meet in the evenings or occasionally on the weekend. Volunteers are also needed the day of an event or special reception.
    Qualities/skills needed: all or a combination of: organized, detailed, creative, good P.R. approach, personable, and cooperative.
    Time commitment: eight to 12 hours per month.

  • Administrative Assistants
    Assist the administrative staff in general office duties, including answering the phone, photocopying, filing, and typing. Project-based tasks include Internet research, data entry, etc.
    Qualities/skills needed: detailed, courteous, and relaxed.
    Time commitment: minimum three hours per week.

  • Web Site Guru
    Update web site as needed. Edit and/or change text including pictures. Add and/or remove links. Download forms and ensure product quality and user-friendliness.
    Qualities/skills needed: expert knowledge of web maintenance and structure, proven experience, discretion, creativity, initiative, reliability and humor!
    Time commitment: one to two hours per month.
  • Literacy Tutors
    Help women in recovery become empowered and self-sufficient. Help them improve their reading and writing skills. Tutoring is done on an individual basis.
    Qualities/skills needed: high level of literacy including knowledge of teaching methods, patience, a love of words, humor and reliability.
    Time commitment: two hours per week.

  • Children’s Center Care Workers
    Assist childcare workers in care and supervision of young children. Help organize activities for children from infancy to five years old.
    Qualities/skills needed: some childcare experience, kind, gentle, observant, patient, and fun loving. Volunteer must be 18 years of age or older. Volunteers are required, by law, to be fingerprinted.
    Time commitment: 1.5 hours per week.
  • Vocational Aides
    Vocational Aides work directly with the women in the treatment programs assisting the Vocational Counselor with job training and education projects, including resume writing, job retention, job search, budgeting, and job interviewing.
    Qualities/skills needed: applicable professional experience preferably within the human resources arena, excellent communications skills, patience, sensitivity and humor.
    Time commitment: two to eight hours per month.
  • Newsletter Writers
    Our newsletter writers help about twice a year (late fall and early summer) although there may be other opportunities during the year. Individuals usually interview clients, alumnae, staff, and other volunteers over the phone and email articles to editor as required. If you have articles on substance abuse and treatment, we invite you to submit them for inclusion in the newsletter.
    Qualities needed: excellent writing skills, creativity, thoroughness, and reliability.
    Time commitment: five to ten hours per year. Work is done from volunteer’s home or office.
  • Workshop Leaders
    If you have special expertise to share, consider leading and/or facilitating a two-hour educational presentation (one to six times per year) for WRA’s adult female clients. Topics can include: employment, finance, health, housing, education, domestic violence, self-esteem, yoga, music, art, or other creative workshop. Your ideas on additional workshops are welcome.
    Qualities needed: excellent communication skills, good presentation demeanor, sensitivity, and patience.
    Time commitment: Two hours minimum.
