WRA Children's Center

The Children's Center is a healing and safe place for children whose lives have been affected by substance abuse. Children of residential and outpatient clients may receive services here, from infants to age 10.

Located at the Counseling Center, the Center is a bright, colorful environment with toys, crayons, paints, small chairs and tables, and pillows.

The Children's Center provides an opportunity for mothers to attend substance abuse programs and parenting groups while their children receive therapeutic services from child care specialists, including art therapy.

Groups

  • Children’s Group
Therapeutic care for children aged five to 10-years old; education on drug/alcohol addiction, feelings exploration, problem solving and coping skills.
  • Mommy & Me
Group for mothers and their children from infants to 10-year olds.
  • Parenting Group
Group for women who are parents; education and mother/child bonding

Individual Counseling

Individual age-appropriate counseling helps the child to understand addiction as an illness.

This can facilitate his or her healthy development and recovery from any secondary effects he/she has experienced as a result of a mother’s substance abuse problem.

It is reported that more than 90% of adults in the U.S. with current substance use disorders started using before age 18; half of those began before age 15.
